Located in Portland, Oregon, Stubby Pencil Studio was launched in 2006 by Kate Rosenthal, after she realized there was a need for eco-friendly, do-it-yourself stationery products for young children. Her inspiration – twin daughters and the thank you notes she created for them to send to family and friends.
Stubby Pencil Studio offers two lines of eco-friendly cards, printed on 100% post consumer waste recycled stock.
I particularly liked the Color ‘n Kids™ cards. They are back to basics with clean, bold illustrations for children to color and practice tracing their letters. They are perfect beginner do-it-yourself card making and feature no cartoon or commercial images. Goodbye, Hallmark…. Hello, Stubby!
What could be more personalized and unique than cards colored and decorated by mine or your little one. The cards come with various designs on them like a Fish or a Ship that are blank and are just begging to be colored. I was tempted to snatch one or two away from my son and try my own hand at them! What’s even better - all of their cards are printed to order and may be customized.
And what better way to color and personalize these innovative and non-commercialized cards than to use Stubby Pencil Studio’s Eco Art Supplies.
The Eco-friendly Colored Pencils are manufactured from California Incense-cedar wood and certified by the Forest Stewardship Council to have originated from environmentally well-managed forests. These Forest Choice colored pencils apply vibrant color and sharpen smoothly and easily. They even come in recycled paper packaging. Eco-friendly all the way! Isn’t that way better than the other ones?
And then you have the Soy Crayons, made from Soybeans – can u believe it?! I didn’t even know that was possible! Unlike traditional petroleum-based crayons, these earth-friendly crayons are made from all natural pigments and soybean oil. Prang Fun Pro Soybean Crayons are brighter, lipstick smooth, and flake less than ordinary wax crayons – for sure! AP certified non-toxic.
And now for the product that had me swooning ….or rather sniffing in delight – SMENCILS! When I first heard of them some months back, I thought someone had misspelled. But no! Smencils are Gourmet scented pencils made from 100% recycled newspapers. Each Smencil comes packaged in its own (recyclable) Freshness Tube. Made from recycled newspaper wrapped around #2 graphite and soaked in environmentally-friendly fragrance liquids, Smencils not only smell great they’re also great for the planet. They come in scents of Cotton Candy, Tropical Blast, Cherry, Watermelon, Bubble gum, chocolate and many more. Even better, they sharpen just lik
e a regular wood pencil!
Why not use the Spring Top Pencil Sharpener by Tatiri to give sharpening a new edge?!Designed in Italy and made in the Philippines under strict supervision that their products meet or exceed both American ASTM and European EN 71 safety standards, these bright and colorful wooden pencil sharpeners are a delight to use and utilize. The whimsical decorations on top (like a fish or a car) just make it all the more fun and brighten up any desk immeasurably. I should know – my fish sharpener is proudly stationed on my writing desk J. As an added bonus, you can mix and match with Tatiri spring top pencils.
In addition to these fine products, Stubby Pencil Studio also offers
- The Wink ‘n Curtsy™ notes are custom designed and personalized to order with the child’s name, hair color, skin tone and accessory colors. They make thoughtful and eco-responsible gifts for birthdays and baby showers.
- Spinny Speller : Three four-sided blocks spin to make 3 dozen simple and rhyming words. Great for early reading skills.
- Made By Me™ kits : Do-it-yourself wooden toy kits for children ages 3 and up.
And many more!
So the next time you have a birthday coming up or you have your kid’s art supplies on your to-buy list, just head on over to Stubby Pencil Studio. That way not only will your wallet thank you, but so will Mother Earth.
Creative solutions to help save Mother Earth – that’s Stubby Pencil Studio for you!
